I recently spun up the Berkshire Argus in western Massachusetts. The focus is primarily investigative, accountability, and explanatory journalism, along with occasional lighter features, profiles, and humor.
The Argus aims to present its reporting in visually compelling ways using story-design tech not often used by small outlets. (See
a recent story on the crisis in rural EMS.)
Eager to meet others with interest/experience in:
--investigative/accountability stories
--acquiring philanthropic support for in-depth/investigative/long-form reporting
--using story design tech/tools
--comparing notes on startup/revenue models and challenges, particularly in small/low-population markets
My background includes many years as a columnist for digital and print outlets. My work was awarded the National Press Club Award for Humor three times--thanks, in large part, to a simple discovery: It's easy to bribe volunteer judges.
