About me
Morgan Elise Johnson is the co-founder and publisher of The TRiiBE. With a personal mission to make and document Black history, she has guided The TRiiBE’s vision and growth since its launch in 2017. Her entry into documentary and journalism was paved at Northwestern University, and nourished at Milwaukee-based production house, 371 Productions. There she produced and directed multiple films about socio-political topics such as religion, reproductive rights and the minimum wage. As an award-winning filmmaker, Morgan also recently produced the PBS POV documentary, Unapologetic, which chronicles the height of the Movement for Black Lives in Chicago through the eyes of abolitionist and feminist leaders (2020). Her life and career evolved when she co-created The TRiiBE (thetriibe.com), beginning her entrepreneurial journey. As a publisher, she challenges anti-Black journalism practices and empowers her team to ""reshape the narrative of Black Chicago,"" which is The TRiiBE's mission. Morgan’s ability to speak truth to power, as well as her creative and business endeavors, have earned her a spot on Chicago Magazine’s Power 50 list (2024), Doc NYC’s 40 under 40 list (2021), and Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Media list (2019).
